Getting Healthier One App at a Time

Back in April we wrote a post about mobile applications that help you track and improve your health. In this post, we want to get into a little more detail about one in particular, the LiveStrong app, that we think can really help make a difference in your diet and lifestyle. This app is worth singling out because it combines the functions of several other applications into one clean interface.

In a nutshell, here's how it works:

You sign up and create a profile. In your profile, you set your height, weight, level of exercise, and desired goal (i.e. lose two pounds every week). Based on the information in your profile, the app sets up a customized program for your calorie consumption. Every time you eat or exercise, you just update the app and it tracks your progress. (The updates are quick and easy because the app is attached to a database loaded with different kinds of foods, restaurants and workouts. You don't have to actually look at any labels to get calorie counts; they're all right there in the app). You'll be able to see how close you are to reaching your maximum calorie count for the day, and you'll see a graph that shows how much weight you've lost. Perhaps the strongest feature is that it stores and syncs all of your data with your account on the LiveStrong website, so you can log in and view it any place, any time.
