The Swine Flu Problem

The recent threat of swine flu (H1N1) has been a hot topic on news networks, blogs, and social sites. Much of the coverage has been dramatic to say the least, with warnings of a severe pandemic that threatens the lives of millions around the world. Fortunately, the projections have thus far proved to be grossly exaggerated, but the danger is still very real - especially for the millions of Americans without health insurance.

Some of the more devastating flu strains mankind has seen have taken a significant toll, resulting in thousands - and in some cases, millions - of deaths. Today, most of us have the protection of health insurance that gives us access to quality, preventative care. There are still millions, however, who lack this protection. Uninsured individuals and families do not visit the doctor as frequently as those with coverage - this leaves them more susceptible to threats like the latest flu strain, which can be deadly if it is not diagnosed and treated early on.

The primary reason so many millions of Americans are left uninsured is not because they're careless - it's because they can't afford the coverage they need. We're dedicated to changing that.
