We received the following testimonial from Katie:

When the company that I was working for started laying employees off, I was relieved that I wasn’t one of the casualties of their corporate downsizing. Fortunately, I was spared. That is, until they had to have a second round, and then unfortunately, I wasn’t spared.

I recently read an article on CNN.com about a woman who lost 140 pounds by being hypnotized. Granted, it took her 5 years to achieve her goal, but slow and steady wins the race as they say, right? Nevertheless, it blew my mind. Could one legitimately avoid exercising and eating right and still drop unwanted weight? Or, had she been hypnotized to enjoy the taste of broccoli and the smell of yoga mats (and other dreaded good habits) instead?! ;P

Despite increasing healthcare costs across the country, there are many people who are still willing to have elective surgeries, meaning they have surgery by choice, not out of necessity.  And, while some go under the knife to remedy a medical or physical abnormality, there are those who succumb for reasons of vanity, wherein they simply want to conform their bodies to an ideal physical image that they have in their minds.

With fall quickly approaching and daylight hours starting to wane, the question you will need to ask yourself is, Will I still get enough vitamin D each day? According to recent studies, there’s a good chance you won’t. In 2009, researchers reported that the levels of vitamin D in the U.S. population had dropped between the years of 1988 and 1994, and then again between 2001 and 2004.

Dear Mike,

I’m uninsured.  I know I need coverage, and I’m told I will probably qualify for a subsidy.  But when I called my state’s Exchange, I was told I couldn’t get insurance until “Open Enrollment,” and even then the coverage wouldn’t start until 2015!  What am I supposed to do, stay uninsured until then? - Doug P., San Diego

As we mentioned in our last post, the sun is still the premier source for vitamin D, which is why catching some rays here and there can do a body good. But, if you don’t have a dog to walk for 20 minutes a day, or you simply don’t want the UVA/UVB exposure for other health reasons, there are vitamin D rich foods that can help you obtain ample levels of vitamin D naturally…

1) Salmon – it has the most vitamin D of any other food!
